Six startups from Singapore and Korea showcase their solutions deployed in real life through a live stream during Demo Day

SINGAPORE, 26 September 2016 - Infocomm Investments Pte Ltd (IIPL), and Cisco today announced the successful completion of the Cisco-TAG.PASS Smart Innovation Programme, following the Memorandum of Intent (MoI) signing last November at the Barcelona Smart City World Congress. The programme aims to jointly innovate, accelerate and help startups develop their products, develop their business models, and gain market access opportunities together with Cisco.

The six startups presented their solutions to more than 100 investors, incubators, commercial partners, Singapore government officials and members of the public. This Demo Day is the culmination of the 20-week intensive programme that saw the teams co-develop solutions that are integrated with Cisco® technologies.

Dr Alex Lin, Head of IIPL, says, “This is the first initiative by Cisco and IIPL to create an innovation-led startup ecosystem at a regional level, and I am proud of its success. By tapping into Cisco’s solutions portfolio and test-bedding capabilities, these startups are realizing our Smart Nation goal. We are also proud that three teams from Singapore were selected to be in this programme, and during which formed joint collaborative projects with other shortlisted teams to realise their product’s potential and extend the solution capabilities to customers. This is what puts the Cisco-TAG.PASS Smart Innovation Programme above others.”

Alex Goryachev, Senior Director of Cisco Strategic Innovation Group, says, “We welcome startups with great ideas, and our strategic collaboration with Infocomm Investments allows these entrepreneurs to actualize their ideas and even go global quickly. The world of technology and IoT is run on standards that Cisco has had a hand in creating, so being able to integrate their solutions with our portfolio will allow these applications to expand their footprint beyond Singapore to other smart cities globally.”

Solutions created for urban farming, smart lighting to sustainable power

The six startups collaborated with one another during the programme to create a range of innovative solutions, including IoT applications for urban farming, smart parking services, smart street lights, rapid IoT solution deployment and integrating sustainable power solution with IoT capabilities. The teams gathered in Singapore to ideate business models and define prototype concepts, solution architectures and technology integration plans. IDA Accreditation provides guidance for those who wish to get accredited for their potential public or commercial projects, while IDA Labs extends its assistance in supporting the startups with product prototyping and development.

Solution development and integration with Cisco technologies were powered both on-site and remotely through the Solution Incubation Programme, led by the Cisco Innovation Centre Songdo in Korea. The prototypes are currently undergoing a pilot phase in in Korea to validate their performance in real-life environments. This multi-city collaboration approach allowed the startups and Cisco to maximise the resources in Singapore and Korea, and paved the way for a multi-city spoke-and-hub model for innovation.

To ensure the long-term sustainability of this initiative, active discussions for a series of innovation activities are ongoing, including a possible joint hackathon looking for innovations led by developers and a second batch of the accelerator program.
