Change the world with technology
People and Culture
Two of our colleagues from our Korea offices share how they started working at Cisco and what it is like to work for us!
Our technology and our people are two key drivers that make Cisco a great workplace – here’s what they said:
Yoonhee Kim, Virtual Sales Account Manager
A city connected by people and device, such definition of IoT intrigued my interest during my university year. As the world becomes more digitized than ever, I wanted to be at the center of such an exciting time we’re in, and play a part in providing innovative solutions to people. However, as a student with a business background, having a career in IT seemed impossible to me. It was not until I heard about Cisco’s Cisco Sales Associate Program (CSAP) that I started to once again dream about my future in technology. I was approached by representatives from CSAP and that was how I joined Cisco.
CSAP offers people with diverse backgrounds to start a career in IT. Even without experience in IT, individuals are able to join as either a Virtual Sales Account Manager or Virtual Systems Engineer upon successful completion of the training in their respective “hubs”.
During the first year in CSAP, I was located at Singapore hub where I worked together with fellow colleagues on the program who came from different parts of Asia Pacific. Together we went through an intensive three months of technical training with fellow colleagues located in Australia and China via Cisco Telepresence technology.
Upon completion of technical assessments, we moved on to on-the-job training where we learned specific skillsets through real life training which helped us in becoming successful account managers. Every day I was amazed by the technologies, some of which, I only thought was possible in movies! Apart from the technology, one of the greatest things at Cisco are the people you meet. Everyone wants to help you succeed, you will be amazed at how willing people are to spend time to do that and help you reach your goal.
Any role in Cisco, including CSAP, is no easy walk in the park. Technology is rapidly changing and if you are ready to take on new challenges and work in a fast-paced environment, then this is the right career path for you. I can assure you that there is never a dull moment with Cisco.
Effie Bae, Virtual Sales Account Manager
After graduation, I was lucky enough to work with Cisco Korea’s communications team as they were a client of the PR agency I was with at the time. I was fascinated by Cisco’s amazing DNA and culture. Cisco started more than 30 years ago and it is constantly innovating and connecting everything to make everything possible. That was what attracted me to join the Sales team. And I wanted to be the person to help customers digitize.
After joining the team, I realized that Cisco is even better than I imagined. I love working with a great team, and helping customer to solve IT challenges. And when my customers are happy with our products, I feel a sense of pride and excitement.
Another thing that I like about working here is that all the managers and team members are very supportive. We have a flexible work practice and I work from home once a week, using our very own collaboration tools, such as Cisco WebEx, without having to worry about missing an important meeting.
With our amazing culture and technology, it is no surprise that Cisco Korea was named one of Korea's Best Companies for Women in 2016, and we were the only multinational company to be recognized by the GWP Korea last year.
To anyone who’s keen to join a company like the one I just described, here’s a place where you can reach your full potential and change the world with technology!
